Default Speed backing Dillner - for now. - 09-18-2006 , 09:36 PM

http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/5979218

Speed defended the story by Bob Dillner, saying he has a "strong record of
solid reporting from the NASCAR garage."

"So there is no rational reason for us to consider that the events and
conversations he related to Speed viewers are anything other than the
truth," said Chris Long, Speed's executive producer for NASCAR programming.

Despain obviously feels taken, Waltrip and Harvick were visibly upset with
Dillner and vocal on the matter. NASCAR stops just short of outright calling
him a liar. And the executive producer defends him.....

Get a big bowl of popcorn started honey, this is gonna be a good one....

Na$car wanted to avoid a controversy by quashing this story from the get-go.
For obvious reasons, Na$car didn't want to get involved in penalizing &
taking points away from a popular owner amongst Na$car fans, and appear in
any way to dictate the outcome of the chase.
Now unfortunately, those actions have appeared to have a reverse affect.
The next few weeks could prove to be very interesting.

I can see how Dillner might have ran with a story that he hadn't verified, a
serious judgement error. But, if it came from someone he knew and had reason
to trust..... It had to start somewhere....

Jim Hunter calls the story complete fantasy. Why would Dillner commit
journalistic suicide in fabricating something like that?

Considering how vague NASCAR information usually is on the technical aspects
of an infraction, is anyone else troubled by such details as 'laser cut' and
'.003 inch slot'? That seems to be unusually graphic compared to the usual
'conduct detrimental' and 'unapproved parts or modifications' we normally
get in such situations.

Of course we all know that NASCAR has a long history of honesty and
integrity in all matters concerning the sport. All decisions have been
rendered in a spirit of impartial fairness to all competitors. Hey! .....
HEY !~!~!~!~!~! Where y'all goin'???? I was just gettin' warmed up here.....

This isn't controversy, just wait until they find the traction control
that Todd Bodine swore that "some teams" were/are using.

Todd wouldn't spout off about things he can't prove would he? As President
of The Planet Fluffy Bunny Touchy Feely Club, he would be undermining the
love and harmony all drivers are blessed with in the garage area to do so.
