Default Sponsors stick with Waltrip, dump DEI - 01-14-2006 , 06:23 AM

Of course everyone knows that Napa decided that they didn't want to sink
with the DEI ship, and they went with Michael Waltrip as primary sponsor of
his #55 BDR ride. Well, now Dominos has officially announced that they too
have followed Waltrip to his new team as an associate sponsor. This shows a
couple of things... being a great driver isn't everything, and being
involved with an Earnhardt ain't what it used to be.

From what I hear, even though being a Jr. fan-

Michael's personality and attitude carries alot of what. Having met Michael
in person on several occasions, he's just like you see on camera, nothing
changes. evidently-NAPA and Domino's saw what they liked and carried it with
him.

DEI Still has BUD(8) and Bass Pro(1). Is there a third DEI team this year?

I am sitting here thinking as a corporation might. Right now my product is
associated with a driver and his name. Everyone knows his name and face because
I have plastered in in my commercials. But how many know he drives for DEI?
Fewer I am sure. So I would go with the driver also but it wouldn't be a bad
reflection on DEI.

As a newbie I can remember most of the drivers and their names but if you asked
me who they drive for --- forget it --- well, maybe a few.

So? Waltrip years ago had Pennzoil, he didn't exactly tear-up the tracks,
did he?

If the truth is known, he paid Teresa for the NAPA sponsorship, otherwise he
wouldn't have a ride.

It's going to be interesting to see how MichaelWaltripMotorsports does
without DEI engine support.

It's going to be very challenging for him this year! He's switching to
Dodge but won't get much Dodge help since he's associated with Bill
Davis who (along with DW) is strongly rumored to be going to Toyota when
they enter Cup/Busch series. He's starting with no points so he has to
race/qualify his way into the first five events before any
(provisionals/top 35) kick in. He's got to hit four different
chassis/engine setups right and hope no qualifing gets rained out or
he's in a big hole by April.

DAYTONA SPDWY (plate race)
CALIFORNIA SPDWY (usually high speed econo run)
LAS VEGAS M.S. (cookie cutter)
ATLANTA M.S. (cookie cutter)
BRISTOL (short track)

DEI Engine support is so valuable also.

IIRC Michael was 0-400+ races before DEI. I think he'll be starting another
losing streak without them

I wasn't going to bite on any of Rob's obvious bait here the past little
bit, but you're response is just too funny. Mainly because of the truth it
contains, but is funny nonetheless.

Rob's put out a bunch of lines for Earnhardt fans over a few posts here, and
got a few bites it looks like.
