Default Stewart didn't get what he deserved - 02-21-2006 , 06:51 PM

I'll let Mark Decotis speak for me on Schizo Tony:

Stewart didn't get what he deserved Sunday

DAYTONA BEACH - Since early January when Nextel Cup preseason
testing kicked off, there was much speculation on when the
self-professed new Kurt Busch would blow his top over a
perceived or real injustice.
But much to everyone's surprise Tony Stewart -- he of the
apparent new voice of reason and maturity in NASCAR -- was the
one who lost his cool in the Daytona 500. His misbehavior cast
a sense of doubt as thick as Sunday's fog over whether he had
put the peevish, petulant Tony of his past in permanent cold
storage or if in the end, he always will be Stewart.

That doubt remained until Stewart got out of the car after the
race and the old, mean Stewart shook his rattles, bared his
teeth and admitted to wrecking Kenseth on purpose.
"He started the whole thing," Stewart said, claiming Kenseth
turned him sideways in the first 20 laps. "He started it and I
finished it."
Unbelievable. I'm not making this stuff up.

In case you've forgotten, it was Stewart's impassioned plea --
made after last Sunday's wild Bud Shootout that bump- and
slam-drafting had gotten out of control and needed to be
curtailed that set the tone for the final days of Speedweeks.
It also spurred NASCAR into deploying officials in the trioval
and the corners to monitor what it called aggressive racing
and threatening penalties for any blatant violations.

Then -- whaddya know -- Stewart on Sunday became the first Cup
driver to be penalized for aggressive driving. Stewart
inexplicably moved down the speedway and planted his left side
into the right side of Matt Kenseth's car, sending Kenseth
into the grass, into the wall and out of any chance of winning
in a car that obviously was capable.

As blatant as Stewart's action was, we'll still give him the
benefit of the doubt over his involvement in Jeff Gordon's
slap of the wall -- and of Stewart -- on lap 48. After all,
Gordon did say the car wouldn't turn as he came off the second
corner, but said Stewart was not without blame.

However, there was no doubt involved in Stewart wrecking
Kenseth 60 laps later. That NASCAR penalized him was the irony
of the day, the week and month.

That Stewart finished fifth in a very strong car was justice
***in that he didn't win, but not enough justice when you
consider how strongly NASCAR President Mike Helton addressed
the issue of aggressive driving before last Thursday's calm
qualifying races.
Helton said a driver, who in the sanctioning body's opinion
was guilty of aggressive driving, would be assessed a
drive-through penalty, a stop-and-go or perhaps even be parked.

***NASCAR didn't follow through on that threat during Saturday's
Busch race when it penalized Stewart's Nextel Cup teammates
J.J. Yeley and Denny Hamlin for aggressive driving by sending
them to the rear of the field.
NASCAR followed that lack of will Saturday with a lack of
spine Sunday when it sent Stewart to the back of the pack for
what was a blatant wrecking of another car. Then in the final laps,
***all of a sudden it put a bite in its bark by assessing
second-year hothead Kyle Busch with a drive-through for a
rough driving incident involving -- guess who? -- that's right, Stewart.

C'mon NASCAR, just as Stewart can't have it both ways, neither can you.
You can't bully the little guy and let the big guy, yeah, the
guy you said carries great weight, and we don't mean around
his waist, off with a slap on the wrist.

We know you were watching on the bank of TVs in race control
when he deliberately wrecked a guy heading into the turn at 190 mph.
Or was the fog in your eyes?
I can't see any other explanation that makes sense.

Just as you found yourself embroiled in controversy after your
***famous non-call on Dale Earnhardt's out-of-bounds violation in
winning at Talladega two seasons ago, you deserve to find
yourself having to explain your decisions this time around as well.
But wait, you didn't do much explaining after that one and we
didn't hear any Sunday either.

Go ahead, keep taking your fans for fools, but don't complain
when your TV ratings fall and your tickets go unsold.
You can't say you weren't warned. But then again, you warned
your drivers, including Stewart, and a lot of good that accomplished.

And he never will. Little Road Rage Faggot Tony is a corperate NASCAR suckup
that gets away with murder, just like Dale Jr. The laws don't apply to the
"Golden Boys".
Do yourself a favor, get into NHRA.

LOL! Man, you RASN noobs are just too much.

First off, you left several names off the Golden Boy list, namely Jeff
Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. Especially JJ, as his CC's punishment going
without a loss in points indicates to me that he is this year's pick by N$
to win the Cup.

Ummm, because he does more often than not? He doesn't get paid to write his
opinions here as he does other places? He's trying to initiate a
conversation instead of simply laying out his opinion?

Pick one.

I think they'll try to push Joonyer through one more time. But I do think JJ
is the backup this year.
