As you are probably aware, the military must fly. Pilots need hours outside of the simulators, and the equipment itself needs certain hours in it's "cycles". So, these things are going to fly even if NASCAR goes away tomorrow. So, the question is "is there a cost associated with asking a military base to do a flyover", and the answer is that the cost is not increased by asking them to fly in a certain location. They were going to be in the air anyway. With regard to the flyover being terminated - I believe that will reduce spectator satisfaction not to have them (I believe most folks enjoy them); and I also think that the flyover interests a certain crowd of people with the resultant interest increasing the possibility of recruitment into the reserves or active service. So, terminating flyovers might even slightly reduce enlistments. Why is it only flyovers? |

The military gets the request from Nascar every year...there is a military base near most Nascar tracks...they include training exercises incorporated into almost every flyover..it gets the older "desk jockeys" some flight training time much needed. Pup *88* |
