Stewart in the A for Saturday. Not an easy task. Too bad about Van Connet,
one of the guys I used to watch race while growing up.

Hey, I was looking over the results of the heat races from Wednesday I
think, I noticed a guy named Cruz Pedregon driving a #71C in the 8th
race. Is that the same one that drag races?

Sure is. But he is no stranger to a midget. He used to race USAC Western
States some years back. He was one of the regulars when ESPN had the
Thunder series, and they were televising races from Ascot/Ventura.

On a side note, I really miss that series. It was easily the best racing on
television.

After I posted that I decided to do a little research.

Former track champion at Ventura raceway in California.

And Corey Kruseman is an advisor. The "Kruser" is one hell of a wheel.
And, for those that care, a real nice guy, too. A couple of years back, I
met Corey at a beer joint in Indianapolis, and spent a great evening
drinking beer and swapping stories. One of these days, I am going to have
to head out to his driving school.

You're right about that, especially in the beginning when it ran on
Thurs, with races from the Indianapolis Speedrome, and occasionally
from out west. It went downhill some when they moved it to Sat night
and ran at IRP...that's really too big a track for midgets, and they
rarely showed sprints or champcars.

Still, I'd like to see someone bring back a weekly series on the
TV, preferably on a weeknight (when there's not much else going on).

I used to think that about IRP, but they really did put on some great shows
there, even in the midgets. Mike Bliss was just about unbeatable there, in
either of the three divisions. One of the best races they had was when
Irwin and Bliss were crossed up, on top of each other at the checkered flag
in champ cars. And who can forget the Cicconi (sp) brothers in the
midgets.

And you can't say enough about the Speedrome. Great venue in person, too.

Agreed. In 2003, Speed televised some of the USAC events, but no one did
this year. The only open wheel oval event Speed televised was Knoxville.
While the Outdoor Channel had WoO, their production values were seriously
lacking. At least they didn't have Ralph Shaheen screaming into the
microphone.

You would think that ESPN Classic would re-run some of those old shows, with
Jeff Gordon, Stan Fox, and the rest. Great drivers that have moved or
passed on, at joints like Winchester, Salem, IRP, the Speedrome, Ascot. . .
..

Sorry for getting sentimental.
