Default Typical upper Midwest weather - 08-16-2009 , 02:36 PM

Mother Nature could not make the weather in the upper Midwest any worse if
she tried. The only good thing you can say about that part of the country
is that it is not prone to earthquakes. But to seal the deal, there is a
serious earthquake fault in the lower part of the Midwest. The Madrid Fault
or some such thing as that.

Tornados? check famous for that
Floods? check some world beater floods
Winter storms? check check check and double check
Hail storms? got ya covered
Drought? sure, why not?
Windstorms? oh yeah
Ice Storms? you bet
Rain on summer weekends? almost guaranteed

Maybe putting up with that climate builds character but I could do without
having my character built like that.

Dick .................... firstly, no matter where you live you have
'climate'. I'm sure what you intended to say was 'changing climate'. So why
don't you pack up the station wagon and the kids and relocate. Spend a
'winter' in a place where you need to run the furnace, .... and test your
theory (i.e. "living in a place where the seasons change bulids character").

It's the New Madrid Fault. I've felt it "quake" once - in 1988. Even
a big one wouldn't affect where I am much. FYI, the midwest isn't
alone with rain on summer weekends, drought, windstorms, floods or
even hailstorms.

You're becoming Earl. Harp on something else.

I actually live in the Midwest and the weather does suck at times. As
far as seasons go, we only have two: winter and road construction.

What amazes me is all the old wagon wheels that you see in peoples'
yards. They always say that they came from the early settlers. This is
no doubt where they came from but personally I don't think that they
intended to stop and settle here, I think that they just broke down and
got stuck here! :-)

This past weekend was a drag, tho, with everyone from the WoO at
Knoxville to the ALMS at wherever-the-heck they were (Elkhart
Lake?) being affected by rain.
