Default Waltrip hits a motorcycle (update) - 10-23-2009 , 02:22 PM

The guy on the bike had been drinking too. He told the cops that he had had
"a couple of beers". Still Mikey's fault, but the biker maybe the biker
could have avoided him if he hadn't been impaired too?

Drinking & driving = dumb

Drinking & riding = really, really dumb.

You know, i hate to have a double standard here but i have to agree
with you. Having a couple beers and blowin .06 in a car is one thing.
you're in a steel cage and modern cars are fairly safe. having a
couple beers and then riding a bike is completely stupid. Your
judgment is impaired with every drink, but a car is certainly safer.
Please do not take what i just wrote as condoning drinking and
driving. It is one of the stupidest things one can do.

Well, we'd never know - and for that matter, from what's been
reported we don't know that the biker was impaired (there's a big
difference between "2 beers in the last 20 minutes" and "two beers
while we watched a 3 hour football game").

I did a little investigating for info too - I had some time to kill.
It appears Waltrip was leaving a shopping center. The center has
two exit roads, one of which allows a left turn onto the main road,
and the other of which does not, there's a concrete median in the
road at that point. Apparently Waltrip came out the wrong exit,
and was trying to swerve around the end of the concrete median in
order to make his left turn. That sort of maneuver supports the
idea that his judgement was impaired.

John, you and I see that kind of crap in FL everyday with people that
are perfectly straight. Sounds to me like he was just driving the way he
does on the track

I agree. I jumped to a conclusion with the "two beers" comment. Whether the
biker was impaired, given what little info we have, is an unkown.

Yeah. There's a news video shot at the accident site on the news website
Jayski's article links to. Looks like Mikey pretty much cut across one or
two lanes to u-turn around the median and cut right in front of the biker.
