Default Whiney Stewart - 04-27-2007 , 08:15 AM

I guess that Stewrats' avergae finish this year and failure to have won a
race is NASCARs way of keeping him down. He gets like this at the beginning
of every year when he starts out poor. Even if he were right, he seems to
forget that he has two of the bogus titles he claims he "won". All his
whining is irrelevant because the reason he lost the race was that he was
out raced by Gordon. There is no disputing that. If he was able to control
his temper he probably would have won. Tony is a great, yes great talent,
but he gets away with more WWF crap than anybody. So shut up and race Tony.

Well said! But the problem with Stewart is he lacks the emotional maturity to
just shut up and race. He will throw a temper tantrum and suck his thumb after
every race he doesn't win.

I'm curious as to why you think his titles are bogus...

I agree that Tony would be a better racer if he were more in control
of his emotions. His titles are no more bogus though than anyone
elses. He earned them just like everyone else did. Does he whine?
At times, but so does Jeff. Jeff even admitted it himself on Wind
Tunnel. They are both stars and both get away with plenty that they
shouldn't.

Tony's emotional control had no impact in my opinion of the outcome of
last weeks race. Both raced hard. To my surprise both raced clean.
Tony took advantage of a lapped car just as he should. He did what he
could to keep Jeff behind him. Jeff though at that point had a better
car. He set Tony up and completed the pass. What proved to me he had
the better car right then is that he was able to pull away a bit after
he passed him back, which is something Tony couldn't do when he made
the pass.

As for the shut up and race, that's the last thing we want especially
in areas where safety is involved. If its not about safety I want to
hear their true feelings not corporate speak. I want them to speak
their minds. I want them to occasionally get mad at losing and not
talk to the press. Its that passion that made stock car racing what
it is today. When its safety, it takes even more courage, but its
even more important. Lives are at stake. One of the earliest driver
safety advocates was called a coward for his views. Coward??? Far
from it. It took more courage to speak out than it did to get back in
one of the race cars of the day. He also was one of the early color
men on the early Nascar broadcasts. Anyone else know who I am talking
about? It is one guy I sure would like to meet one day and hope I do.

I'd rather hear corporate speak every week than the whiney
complaining of a spoiled brat.

Let's not confuse passion with emotional immaturity.

Congratulations. You are the very new age fan that NASCAR is seeking.

Emotional immaturity? So... if an individual speaks out and expresses a
valid thought, that is emotion immaturity? Corporate speak is emotion
maturity?

Sorry - I disagree.

Not a new fan.

Skipping out on his media responsibilities because he didn't win the
race is emotional immaturity. Emotional immaturity is the countless
other times he has lost his cool including the time he stomped his
feet, pouted, and sulked because he didn't want to wear the HANS.
Tony Stewart is spoiled rotten little brat. If that's "your kind of
guy", enjoy the show. I like drivers who are more adult. I can't
believe how people say Jeff Gordon is a whiner but then lap up with
glee everything Tony Stewart says because "he speaks his mind, he's
a real man and won't take NASCAR's crap". Give me a break. He got
taken to the woodshed today and he crumbled just like any other
driver. Bottom line is he's a little snot-nosed brat who needs
spanked regularly for constantly saying and doing idiotic things.

Well, to each his own. I don't like at all the robotic platitudes that come
out of the mouths of drivers today. If you consider that to be a sign of
some sort of maturity, then that's fine. I don't. Much of what NASCAR is
about these days is in need of address, and though some of the actions of
drivers like Stewart may be contrary, they do shine a light on some of the
issues with NASCAR. I'd rather see a guy stick his neck out a bit than to
watch week after week of the same old stuff, with drivers repeating the same
old lines as if they are in on NASCAR's attempt to deceive the viewing
public. It's become too much of a contrived event these days and if a
driver like Stewart has to break the rules a bit to bring this stuff out in
the open, then so much the better. There is no degree of maturity in
sucking up and playing the game just for the sake of the paycheck week after
week. If you consider blind following to be a sign of maturity, then that's
fine. I don't.

I won't call the races contrived but NASCAR does throw bogus
cautions. It does make the races more interesting. I agree with why
they do it.

I agree with you about the boring robot corporate speak but I'm also
getting tired of Tony Stewart being in the news every week because
he said or did something stupid. Like a bratty child, I think he
enjoys the attention.
