northeast had a rate of 9.1. That is quite a discrepency. Is it
because life is so boring and stupid in the south that they only thing
a southerner can think of to do is to drive fast? That is depressing.
Maybe the hot sticky humid summers of the south make the winter seem
like it is not leading to anything worth living for.

So are you saying that it should be obvious why southerners commit
suicide 50% more than yankees? It is certainly plausible and not
surprising, but why obvious? Why wouldnt double the yankee rate be the

That is a good question. I do know that some fools have suggested that
Seattle has a high rate because of rain, but the state of Washington
has a lower rate than any other western state. I have pondered the
question. Compared to the south, it is not enormously high, and
Seattle, which interests me as a place to move to has a lower rate than
the south as a region. Young people have tended to leave the
northeastern states and have moved south and west. I suspect that
movement of the younger generations is related to this. Traditionally,
older people have offed themselves at a higher rate. So I am a little
confused about it. I think people that stay behind in New Bedford,
rather than to boldly go where no man (in their family) has moved
before tend to be people that dont just let nature take its own course.
They take the bull by the horns. When it comes to diing, I suspect
the same applies. I know that if I were incurably immobile, blind,
deaf, incontinent, cancerous, or a combination of the above, I would
very like take action. Wouldnt you?

My lengthy experience in life and extensive scientific research suggest that
this apparent suicide rate is due to Yankees moving down south and
discovering that they have missed many years of fine southern living. They
can't bear the realization that all that peach cobbler has passed them by,
so they snuff themselves.
