....would find out for the pre-race shows what gears the various teams decided to
run for Quals. And if they changed (higher or lower?) after learning about the
smaller plates.

Some Roush cars Qualified fast and some further back. Junior likes a lower gear
that gives him the grunt during the race to suck up to cars in front.

Same with RCR and Hendrick cars...some up front some way back.

Evernham was quoted that the Dodges were hurt worse than other makes by the
smaller plates and would be interesting to know what gears Newman (11th) and Petty
(18th) used and if they changed Sat AM.

Even if they were willing to go to the back of the field, it was confirmed
earlier that NASCAR wouldn't let them change gears (post Q) unless they
could prove there was a mechanical problem.

According to that article, the crew chief meeting & new plate dispensing
happened at 6:30am, so I don't know why teams didn't scramble more to change
gears. Unless they actually did, but without practice couldn't really
zero-in. I didn't know they were informed so early today, so I'm a little
disappointed more couldn't pick a better gear set, even without practice.
Need more info on how everything really unfolded.

That's my preference when simming. (Like anyone really gives a good sh**
about my gaming.)

Why would that hurt Dodges the most?

Yeppers, but from 6:30 am till Quals there were *lots* of hot cell towers back to
Mooresville and bet engine shops had tuner 'puters smoking! Robert Yates said if
they'd been told on Friday there would have been changes on heads, cams &
manifolds. I'm thinking RYR ran *very high* ratio (low numerically) gears and
have sacrificed torque for re-starts and ability to 'suck up'.

Most of my simming was the Ratbag stuff...and very little set-up mods.

Ray was saying they were just more sensitive to air flow variables, I
think...manifold issues, maybe?
