Default 1996 Nissan Terrano R3m Diesel 2.7 turbo - 09-13-2003 , 02:10 AM






Hi all.

My Terrano is cutting out on me driving or idling and all lights on the
dashboard come on. I have put a couple on LEDS on the both sides of the
ignition switch unfortunately both LEDS stay on regardless of outcome.
Sometimes whilst driving (Actual speed does not appear to matter.) the
vehicle will hesitate almost like it has been switched off and switched on
again, but no dashboard lights come on and the vehicle will pick up and
continue on (My foot hasn't moved off the accelerator honest!!) Sometimes
however the vehicle will actually appear to stall and if I put my foot flat
to the floor it will catch and continue on as though nothing has happened.
But you have to be quick. Other times you will be slowing right down to turn
a corner for example and when you go to accelerate out of the corner nothing
is there and the dashboard lights will just be coming on. So if any one has
any ideas about this madding problem I suffering from, I would appreciate
your wisdom as it is becoming a health and safety issue when my Wife is
driving the vehicle towing a horse float for example and every thing cuts
out. This makes it very very hard to brake and also steer to safety.

is this a WD21 model or an R50 model with electronic diesel injection.
the earlier models have a tiny filter screen in the fuel inlet to the injector
pump that can become blocked, it's very difficult to remove.
If it's the later model it could possibly be an alternator failure, when the
alt fails it can turn on all the lights and perhaps the ecu voltage drops
below it's safe operating threshold
