Default 92 Sentra Classic--Timing Belt Issue - 07-23-2009 , 01:40 PM

1992 Sentra Classic 1.6L 4 cyl.
Going about 35MPH, my wife heard a buzzing sound and engine stopped.
Timing belt snapped.
Is there any chance that there was no valve damage.
I had a 1988 Corolla 1.6L DOHC 16 valve. Same thing happened. New Belt and
it was fine.
Is the Nissan engine also a non-interference engine or am I sunk?
Thank you

timing "belt" on a 92 1.6 sentra engine? the haynes manual
indicates the 91 thru 94 engines have a timing chain.

Sorry, assumed it was a belt.
My question, however still stands.
Can you help?

Actually, it IS a belt.
I took off the cover to see. It is also intact!
So the break must be in whatever links the lower pulley to the crankshaft
pulley
(chain, belt, gear, etc.)
Sadly I was hoping my question about bent valves would be answered.

My 1987 1.6 liter Sentra had a belt. My 1999 1.6 liter Sentra has a
chain. According to everything I've checked, every Sentra after 1989
has a chain. Be that as it may, if you've got the valve cover off,
are you saying that if you crank the engine, the crankshaft turns but
the cams don't move? Is there a lot of slack in the belt or chain or
whatever you've got?

No....everything looks good and tight.
Something else broke.
Remember we are dealing with a Sentra Classic, the boxy model made in
Mexico.
It basically was a parts bin car, using stuff from the '89 Sentra.
