Default 97 Nissan 4x2 Pickup Rear End Vibration - 11-02-2009 , 07:31 AM

I have a 1997 Nissan 4x2 Pickup with 180,000 miles that has developed
a rear end vibration. Whenever I get between 50 and 55 mph I get a
vibration from the rear end of the truck. If I let off on the gas it
goes away, but when I give it the gas again its starts up. Replaced
tires and gear oil, but its still there.

Any ideas on what I need to look for or replace?

Thanks for any help....................

It is a manual transmission 5 speed.

Were wheels balanced? Worn wheel bearings? Loose exhaust pipe?

Took it to auto shop this afternoon and mechanic said that it needed
universal joints replaced.

sounds like a problem with either the center support bearing on the drive
shaft or a u-joint problem.
