Default brake Judder - ABS? - 05-23-2005 , 09:59 AM

I have a Nissan Primera 1.6 sx.
I have been getting a judder on the RH wheel as I come to a junction. I have replaced both the discs and the pads and am still having this problem. The only thing that I can think of now is that the ABS is somehow cutting in ( the effect is the same as when you brake on snow or ice and the ABS takes over. The brake failure light in the instrument panel is not lighting up to show any faults, Nor does any fault show up on the electronic diagnostics
what I need to know is
a.. has anyone else had this effect?
b.. What could be the likely cause?
c.. is there any part of the ABS system that needs greasing?
d.. how can I test if the ABS is working correctly?
would be grateful for any information as to how I can fix this fault
many thanks in advance
Jim Ward

You should clearly hear the ABS pump motor running while driving if
indeed the ABS is kicking in. My guess is that this is a very unlikely
cause of your problem.

You'll also feel it through the pedal.

You can test the ABS just by braking hard, with someone watching to be
certain - they should be able to see the wheels "doing their thing".

Is the vibrating in any way speed sensitive? ABS vibration is not.

Thanks for the replies, some more information, if that can help you to help
me.

It only happens as I approach a junction or roundabout.
It happens when i am going slow upwards from 5 - 10 miles / hour. even under
good road conditions
I can feel the vibration on the pedal as it happens, and hear the noise from
the r/h frt wheel
When it happens the brake pedal goes hard,
The ABS light is working ok comes on with the ignition and then goes off as
it should.
I am not breaking hard enough to the ABS to kick in

Many thanks for the suggestions I will try them out and try to sort the
problem out.
Meanwhile if the above info gives you any further help, It would be much
appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Does this problem happen only on turns?

only happens when approaching a junction or roundabout, there is a slight
turning of the wheels as you would when approaching a junction. the wheel is
never on a full lock

I'm just wondering if your could have a problem with your velocity
joints. Normally when they are worn... you hear noises and pehaps
clunking (if they are really worn) when the front wheels are turned and
moving. I suppose you could also have a differential problem if this
noise is only on turns. I would certainly check the joints first...
rather simple to do.
