Tweezers or very slim needlenose pliers? Might be easier to just unbolt the
tube from the engine and take it out from the other end...

Thanks for the idea.

I tried turning the tube but it flexed and wasn't sure if it's threaded.

I'll try again.

Try using compressed air. Insert nozzle into oil fill, cover hole
with shop towel and apply the compressed air, it should produce
enough pressure to push the dipstick back up the oil tube.

GREAT ADVICE !!!

Too bad I deformed the top of the tube by attempting to unscrew it, but
I'll give it a shot.

If not, I'm going to try heating a small nail until it's red hot, trying to
melt a hole into the top of the plastic stub ( I hope that palstic is
meltable)..

Then I'll try using a straightened fish hook and try to hook it into the
hole left by the hot nail.

This I'll attempt over the weekend.

Whatever possessed Nissan to use a plastic top on a dip stick is beyond me,
LOL!

With all the heat next to the engine head, it's asking for trouble.

Sorry for starting two threads, but due to a long delay I didn't think the
first one posted .

Happened to me. Top of the dip stick broke off. Experienced mechanic spent
about a half hour trying to get it out--eventually was successful. When he
got it close to the top he used vice grips on the tube to keep from pushing
it further down He tried several different ways--drilling and putting a
screw into the plastic etc. It looked like a lost cause for a while but it
finally came out. Then he changed the oil because of the potential for
debris getting into the oil. BTW, it was one of the other mechanics who
broke the dip stick changing the oil.

Thanks for the tip to use vise grips to prevent pushing the stick further
down the tube.

If the dipstick isn't too far down in the tube, a shop vacuum is supposed to
be able to pull the dipstick out with its suction.

Searching for "nissan sentra broken dipstick" without quotes shows enough
discussions about this issue that it really should be considered a design
flaw, even though the dipstick is a fairly inexpensive part to replace.

Because the tube was deformed due to my trying to unscrew it, I ended up
drilling out the plastic stub on top of the stick that was stuck in the
tube. This cause the stick to drop down the tube.

Luckily, I was able to hook the pin that held the plastic loop handle with
the new stick and pulled out the old stick.

The oil was overfilled by the Monkeys at Merlins. Now I see why they never
showed me the oil level on the stick as they normally do.

They broke the f'ing stick and covered it up.

Bunch of A'holes they are. So are the Nissan "engineers" or maybe their Bean
Counters are at fault.

FUCK THEM ALL !!!!!
