Carfax www.carfax.com is a website that will give you a history of a used
vehicle from it's introduction to the road until the day it arrives at your
dealer.

A single vehicle report will cost you $19.99 and unlimited usage will cost
you $24.99.

It's worth it, I'm just broke as hell and I asked for someones generosity
and received it.

FWIW I would *never* buy another used vehicle without running it through
carfax first.

I ALWAYS pull a report on any used vehicle I am about to purchase and
provide one to a prospective buyer of any of my own vehicles.

However - I think Carfax is highly overrated. The biggest problem is
that what does and doesn't have to be reported (by insurance/auto
repair facilities) varies from one state to another, so here in
llinois, I've never found anything on the reports other than title
changes and emission test milestones. It's good to track mileage
history, but doesn't help you figure out if the car's been in any major
accidents or that type of thing.

It's useful when buying a used car, but is only a small piece of the
research I would recommend anyone should do before comitting. I think
a full inspection by someone familiar with cars (whether it's your best
friend, or your local mechanic) is a must - including putting the car
on a lift.

Cheers,
Nirav
