Default Chances of new throw-out bearing going out? - 05-11-2005 , 01:11 PM

What are the chances of a new throw-out bearing going out? Just have my
clutch replaced, and I get home, and my truck is making this cool whining
noise.. but if I push the clutch in .. it goes away...

sigh

I think you should be asking... what are the chances the clutch was not
installed properly.

Hmm, if it was the TO, it would make the noise only when the clutch was
depressed. Sounds like something wasn't put back together properly. Take
it back.

It's not a throw out bearing if the noise goes away when you push in the
clutch, it's more like countershaft bearings.

Did the refill the transmission with the correct grade gear oil , or even
fill it at all?

Yup, I believe the transmission was completely refilled. Is the countershaft
inside the transmission? Or it is the not so hard to replace front shaft
bearing? (the shaft that the clutch uses.

Now here's a dumb question. Does it have both a pilot and a throw-out
bearing?

It's the transmission bearings not the clutch if it goes away when you
push it in. Very common for people to notice noises AFTER a repair that
were there before, they are looking for them. The only thing I can think of
that might be different is the rubber shift boot that seals the shifter to
the body is torn or not installed right and you're able to hear the noise
more?

Yes, but doubt that's your problem. Take it back to the installer.

The pilot bearing is the bushing in the end of the crankshaft than the input
shaft is supported with, the throwout bearing is what disengages the clutch
pressure plate and is attached to the clutch fork.
