Default Issues with 1997 Sentra? - 10-21-2006 , 09:13 PM

1997 Sentra

Loaded with everything except CD player and Sunroof...

Anything I should know about this car before buying it? Known issues, etc?

155,000 miles if it matters. Driven by a little old lady who never put the
gas pedal past 1/2 way.

check for front and rear oil seal leaks. check all belts/hoses. At
155k, you may need to check timing chain tensioner.

Is it an automatic? Might be about the end of the line if it is. Any
service records? Little old lady car can mean poor maintenance.

Yes. Automatic. Drives like a brand new car... No smoke. Oil looks clean
and no foam. No leaks that I can see.

Former owner is family. Perfect maintenance.

Literally driven like a babied auto it's entire life.

Bottom line is I have to make a decision. Give up my 1995 Saturn SL1 that
has stuck rings and burns a quart of oil every 900 miles and go with this
apparent cream puff with mostly, if not all highway miles or... Take my
chances on the Saturn. Not ready to buy something else right now.

The deal is I give the Saturn to someone else, I get the Nissan.

If the transmission fluid is clean and doesn't smell burnt, it's
probably OK. It amazing how many "well maintained" cars never had the
trans serviced.

...and..if it *is* working properly *do not* flush the tranny. Just
add fluid as required. A sure fire way to trash an old tranny is to
flush it.
