Default New tires for my 2004 Nissan Quest - 04-11-2005 , 06:59 PM

Hi all,

It's time to replace the tires on my 04 Quest... stock is 225/65-16.
However, those don't seem to be too common.

My local WM's don't carry any tires in that size & TireRack.com has exactly
1 kind - the same GoodYear Eagles that are on it now.

I'm going to go with a close, but different size to give me more flexibility
on choice & better prices, but I'm not sure which to pick.

Original: 225/65-16 - radius = 13.8

Size1: 215/65-16 (45 choices at TR) - radius = 13.5
Size2: 225/60-16 (114 choices at TR) - radius = 13.3
Size3: 215/60-16 (74 choices at TR) - radius = 13.1
Size4: 235/65-16 (47 choices at TR) - radius = 14.0
Size5: 235/60-15 (47 choices at TR) - radius = 13.6

Anyone have an opinion on which of these might be the best choice? It's a
minivan, so I'm not looking for crazy performance - just safe, solid
handling and a reasonable price.

#1 is close in radius, but I'm not sure what kind of handling impact
narrower tires would have. #2 keeps the orig width and is the most common,
but it's also a whole 1/2" smaller. Not sure if I'd have problems with the
greater width in 4 or 5 on the Quest.

Help!

I'd go with the 225/60-16's

By the way the 235/60-15 will not work, so eliminate that from your choices
unless it is a typo.

if you meant to type 235/60-16 them I would go with that one as a primary.

I always recommend Michelin tires, anything else is trash , IMHO

Sorry that was a typo, should have been 235/60-16.

Does NissTech mean that you're an actual Nissan Tech? Just wondering
because I was worried about the 235 rubbing the inside or extending out past
the wheel well. Is the clearance going to be OK?

Thanks!

any change in tire size will creeate some minor problems with transmission
control since the vehicle is calibrated for tire size to speed sensor altho
the speedo may appear fast or slow the computer will still shift the trans
at the appropriate time for the correct tire size if it shifts to early or
late damage to trans could occur...granted the size change will be minamal
it could still have a long term effect on trans ...be careful we see this
all the time in shop where people have put fancy rims on cars and dont know
that it will effect trans operation.sometimes damage occurs in days
sometimes in months /years.... depends on amout of size change...just a word
of warning.ASE certified transmission tech...dont buy a new computer for
your car repair yours ask me for info djmcreynolds1 (AT) bellsouth (DOT) net
