Default Nissan Frontier Clutch Noise - 12-10-2006 , 07:42 AM

I have a 98 and it made a whining noise when I pressed the clutch for a
year before I took it in to have the clutch replaced. It stopped for a
while then started again. Two years later my transmission went south. I
replaced the transmission and the clutch a had the fly wheel resurfaced
and the same noise is happening. I press the clutch and it whines until
I release it. It doesn't happen every time I press the clutch though
which it strange. Any ideas before I take it back to have the
transmission redone?

I also have a '98 Frontier. I was told that my clutch needed to be
replaced, and I had it done, but it did not make any whining noise. What
happened was the engine started winding out at a lower speed. For example,
instead of hearing the engine want to shift from 1st to 2nd at around 15-20
miles per hour, it changed to between 10-15 mph. After the new clutch was
installed, the problem remained, as it has to this day.
Unfortunately, I don't have any answer to your problem, but I just wanted to
let you know that my '98 has had clutch problems as well.

Take care, and good luck with your situation.

I have a similar story, my '98 Frontier clutch whined for about 6
months, I replaced the clutch. It stopped for a month, and then
started whining again. It mysteriously stopped after doing nothing. On
a quiet day last weekend I traded it in for a new murano.

Good luck, but it doesn't seem to be hurting anything, just a bit
irritating.

The noise is probably the throwout bearing. Did you replace it when you
replaced the transmission?

My guess is that the noise source is the pilot bearing/bushing, which
sounds off when the clutch is depressed. On my '95 4 cyl. hardbody,
that was the only problem. Since the tranny has to be removed to
change the pilot bushing, I changed the clutch & throwout bearing at
the same time.
