Default Power and Fuel Economy - 08-11-2003 , 10:16 AM

Hello all,

I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra SE. I want to increase the engine power (either
horsepower or torque increase). However, I want to have good fuel economy.

Right now the car have a little over 31k miles on it. The average milage is
26. The highest is 33 on the highway, and lowest of mix driving is 23.

I am looking into changing the air filter, header, and spark plug wires. I
don't want to add the high performance chip, high flow muffler, or NOS.

I have some idea what air filter and header I would buy, but I am not sure
about the spark plug wires.

My driving habit is sometime heavy foot, and other time easy cruising. I
want the both power and economy.

I had checked out the www.se-r.net, but didn't find anything.

Thank you.

The key to getting more power without the fuel economy suffering is to
free
up power from the engine. Some things you could do are - like you already
mentioned, exhaust headers and intake - lightened flywheel, underdrive
pulley, lighter wheels, or if you want to go all out, lighter internals
(pistons, rods etc.)

Headers are not all that cost effective unless you get the rest of the
exhaust system to back it up.

Can't have both. Choose one and go with it.

If it's power, have thousands of dollars available, or get a new car,
but this time one with the power you really should have gotten in the
first place.

"Tuning" up your Sentra isn't really going to cut it.

Good luck,

John D.
