Hey maxima fans, just bought my first Max, an '03 Max SE auto with
46
K km. I've had it for 2 months now and am impressed (used to drive
an
Accord 4cyl!!). I've put about 2K km on it so far.

I have a major concern regarding fuel consumption: I am
consistently
getting <400 Km to the tank. I've filled up 5 times since getting
it
and always with premium. The best return to the tank was 380km
with
about 25 km left according to the DTE calculator. Assuming 400km
(optimistic on my part) to the tank 60L(70L capacity) (60L=never
completely drained the tank).

I know my reasoning/calculation leaves something to be desired, but
work with me! 60L/400km=15L/100km or 15.8mpg (at 3.78L/gal)

Is this what other '03 SE owners are getting or is there something
wrong wit my ride?

Variables: 85% City driving. Work is <10min drive from home,
Winter
idling in the morning (factor??), driving style= medium (gear
shifts
b/
w 3500-4500 rpm), but I have opened it up a few times :]]
The car's fuel efficiency gauge/calculator does not change =
constant
9.6L/100km

I would really appreciate other owner's
responses/comments/experiences
especially '03 model year.
Thanks

I've got the same car with about the same amount of km's on it. I'm
getting
the same mileage as you're indicating in the city and on the hwy.

Nice car, but heavy on fuel. Lots of horsepower there though. You
always
pay for power.- Hide quoted text -

Yeah but I thought that the VQV6 is a pretty (fuel) efficient engine?
I know a couple of people with '05 Altimas (3.5L, same engine right?)
and they report 600km to the tank (406 miles) highway mileage.

On a side note, I had rented a Ford Explorer (Triton? V8) for a couple
of weeks and that returned approx 550 Km to the tank (`75L I think?).

Sorry, I didn't clarify, I get under 400 KM per tank in the city and
about
600 KM per tank on the highway. Big difference, for obvious reasons.
If
you aren't getting about 600 KM on the highway, then I would think
something
is wrong... At 110Km/hour the engine is revving about 2500 rpm. (4
speed
automatic)

I hate to post this,,,but is the entire world mathematically
challenged,,??

Fill the dam tank,,,

drive until its about 1/4..

fill it again,,,

and divide the number of miles, or Kms, by the number of gallons or
liters you just bought- to come up with the GAS MILEAGE/Kms>>>!!!!

the number of whatever per "tank full" is
meaningless,,,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen this same idiotic post over and over and over on this
group - learn to use a calculator people - the number per tank full is
meaningless,,,,,

If you can't handle the simplicity of the conversation, keep your math to
yourself. If I wanted more math, I'd finish my PhD in electrical
engineering.

Most people who drive a car can relate to the jist of the conversation
above. It's unfortunate that you can't.

the conversation is simplistic to the point of being idiotic,,,

you can not determine fuel mileage by using "distance per
tankful",,,,!!!!

The gas gauge is at best plus or minus 20 percent,,,

You do not need a PHD to perform the calculation to get an accurate
gas mileage,,,8th grade will do fine - something you apear to lack,.

Yes, apparently you're the anal rocket scientist in the bunch who takes
these conversations a little too seriously.

I guess you have to troll through the newsgroups and critique postings so
you can appear in your own mind as smarter than someone else?

Not worth continuing this posting since we've discovered the troll.

Your calling me a Troll,,,ROTFL.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Get a life moron....

I just picked up a 03 Max GLE with 47000Km and and it seems to be the same situation with me as well.
But i have a question. Do i really have to use Gold gas? or can i use silver or bronze? What should be my concerns and does on give me more KM's than the other?

Premium does give better mileage, not to mention the car's engine
performs a heck of a lot better.

I can actually tell the difference when I put in 92 octane vs. 93
octane.. the car needs premium. Otherwise you're just driving an
expensive Taurus.

agree,,,91 or better octane, its only 6 perecent more at present gas
prices,,

It will "run" on lower octanes, but it will ping and drag, and get
reduced mileage - its a high compression engine design.

I agree. It's false (though tempting) economy to use anything less than
91. I definitely lose a couple MPG if I run regular, though it doesn't
ping or anything.

I've always used premium since getting the car (around 4mos now) so I
don;t know how it compares to the reg grade of gasoline. A side note:
I did notice a slight improvement in fuel economy (approx 2L/100k)
when I recntly switched from Esso (91) to Sunoco (91) (Here in
Toronto) although this also coincided with the end of winter so I'm
not really certain of the actual factor responsible for the
improvement.

Just a quick question in regards to "pinging" and or "knocking" that
you guys rerfer to . Is this the sound that u sometimes hear from the
engine after switching the car off. If so, I get this sometimes even
though I only use premium. Any suggestions/comments?? Thanks

Go Raptors!
