Default Installing gauges - 03-06-2006 , 09:20 AM

Hi friends,

I have a Maxima 1999 and I'd like to install some gauges on my car - There
are so many gauges available in the market - like www.autometer.com or even
at www.custommaxima.com . Some of the gauges that seem interesting are the
fuel pressure gauge, voltmeter, oil temperature, water temperature, etc.

1. Could someone tell me of these which are relly usefull gauges. If none of
them are a necessity then which are nice to have - (any two)

2. How would one install them? Especially get the wires through the
firewall? Any other methods of connecting gauges?

3. When you say oil pressure gauge, what does that mean and what does it
actually indicate? How does it help in better driving?

Thanks in advance,
SD

With so little knowledge of the subject, why would you want to install them
in the first place...because they look really cool?

Hello,

As far as gauges go, if I were to install a set i would go with
voltmeter and oil pressure. You already have a temp. gauge in your cluster.
You really don't need a fuel pressure gauge. The oil pressure gauge shows
the amount of pressure that your oil pump is putting out. If your oil
pressure is very low then that will indicate a problem and you can shut the
car off before doing major engine damage. If you need help as far as wiring
diagrams or any other questions please visit our website Nissan Help at:

Hi,

Thats exactly my question, why would one want to install them. One thing is
that they dont look really cool at all - they (gauges) are just there - some
like 'em some don't . But the main question is DOES IT HELP YOU BE A BETTER
DRIVER (or lemme put it as - does it help you be a better racer )

An oil temperature gage can be useful, more useful in my opinion than an oil
pressure gage. You don't want to push the engine before the oil reaches
operating temperature and you can't really tell when that is by watching the
coolant temperature.
