90 head gasket

I am replacing head gaskets, new gaskets are FelPro, they are identical
to what I am removing. But I wonder why the gasket restricts certain
passages, such as the smallest coolant passages, where holes in the
block and head are maybe 1/4" square, and the gasket only has maybe a
1/8" hole.
The only consolation is that the old gasket is that way, but IT may not
be original. Anybody have a new Nissan gasket that could post a photo?
Anybody else run into the same question? What did you do?
