Default Stiff passenger door - 2000 Maxima - 03-11-2007 , 01:44 PM

The passenger door of my 2000 Maxima has gotten progressively stiffer
over the years, to the point now that it nearly takes a body builder
to close it. My wife rarely closes it on the first try, and has
resorted to gently kicking it the rest of the way shut because her
shoulder was getting sore.

I read a post "2k Max Tight doors?" from 2001, and the only advice
given was "lube up the door checks," but I'm not sure what that
means. I've sprayed WD-40 on the only visible hinge, but it doesn't
feel like it has anything to do with that. Has anyone else
experienced tight doors over the years? If there is anything I might
be able to do on my own (besides taking it to the dealer), please let
me know.

Thanks!
Kevin

First, WD40 isn't a lubricant. It's a water displacer (hence the "WD")
and quickly evaporates. Use white lithium grease in a spray can. Lube
the hinges and both sides of the retainer (part that slides in and out
of the door, that's what's really causing your problem).

Huh, wow, I had no idea about WD40, I just thought it was a general
lubricant. I read the can and you are right! I sprayed the parts you
suggested with white lithium grease and it is much improved. Thanks!
