Default Still another SES question - 02 SE - 06-18-2006 , 12:22 PM

The SES light came on yesterday in my 02 SE with less than 40K miles.
Never had any service problems with this car and dealer performed full
30K service a couple months ago. Is there any way to get the codes
without buying a scan tool? Is there any way to reset it to see if it
goes on again? BTW whatever happened to Maxima.org? Thanks in advance
for any help.

Go to Autozone, they will scan and reset it for free. Maxima.org is still
up.

While it's true that it will reset if you disconnect the battery for
long enough (several hours), it's not the way to do it as it will also
lose all the learned settings and reset all the emissions monitors. Not
a good thing in states with emissions testing.

...it will also lose all the learned settings and reset all the emissions monitors. ..
Master-Reset is zeroing ALL registry databits to all zeros. Doesnt matter how its achieved (although dont recommend the usual hammer - as bootup might become problematic).

The ECU-selflearnin process for cleared ECU is 20 minutes if one follows FSM guidelines, no problem. Time is longer if one just drives, ECU will do all for u. Emission testers may want one week (?) data.

The batt off time: various sources say ½-24hrs, my experience 30minutes, later absolutely no problems.

But why not use autozone if they do it free? I am I (?) just lazy. Some let stealerships do it with 150€ charge, I say I (?), that billin is crazy...
