Do you mind if I ask how many miles the Tranny had on it when it was first
replaced? I'm just wondering how long the Bonnie tranny's usually last.

My 88 SSE went 160,000 on the original Tranny, I'm at 135,000 on the
ACDelco replacement. The secret is fluid & filter changes...

Hmm...I shall ask a question then (I am rather full of them...among other
things :-P). My '91 SSE, when going from Park to OverDrive makes very little
noise. Just the same noise that any car makes when switching gears. However,
if I go from Reverse to OD, it makes a HUGE klunk noise. It just started
this a couple of weeks ago. Also, if I am in Reverse, but go down to
Neutral, wait a few seconds, then go into OD, it works fine. Also, the
tranny 'slips' at times too, like when slowing down, then giving it gas
(like taking a corner). Would you say the tranny is going, or should I try
the fluid and filter changes first?
Thanks for the miles readings on your car too!

Trans was rebuilt in February 2001 at 192,000 miles. It began to slip on
takes offs maybe 3-4 times a month, over a 4 month time frame ( Nov -
Feb ). Decided to have it rebuilt before the car completely stopped
moving.

The love affair wasn't over yet so I decided to have it rebuilt as I
wasn't ready to buy a new car yet.

I travel out of state alot so I need it to run. Don't want to be
stranded in Smithville, Wisconsin!

Going to Iowa next week, then PA in two weeks.

Wow. I can't believe the places you go, and the miles you have acumilated
onto that same 3800 that was in the car way back in '91 when it was first
bought. Owning a '91 Bonnie myself, are there any tips or what not that you
can give me, so I can do the best that I can to make my car last as long as
yours?

agree. Our 76 Impala went to 235,000 miles before the tranny puked its second
gear. I ran it another 15,000 on a rebuilt, and AFAIK the buddy I sold it to
still uses it for a winter beater w/o probs.

OTOH, don't ask me about my own experiences, let alone several other friends,
with those damn MOPAR trannys. Seem to die at 70,000 every one of 'em. Must be
why they extended the warranty out to 70???

Tip 1 - If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Tip 2 - Mechanically,If it can be avoided, don't let anyone touch it.

Thanks for the tips. Today, I had the rear door repaired by a friend (the
handle was seized up) and I replaced the Throttle Position Sensor, as the
car was running like crap. Runs great now.
