Default 91 Bonneville SSE 3.8 Fuel Filter location Help... - 08-30-2004 , 03:56 PM

1. I have a hard time starting my Bonneville after it sits along time, I
know its not good to pump the gas before and while starting but thats the
only way it'll start. Now after I get it running, it runs very very
sluggish like its starving for fuel. I want to try replacing the fuel
filter first before the fuel pump incase its not the pump. I never done
this before, so I do not know where abouts the fuel filter is located. Can
anyone help me please?
2. My Harmonic Balancer is shot also. Would that have anything to do with
way the motor runs the way it is now?

Thanks for your help...

The filter's under the car, near the back driver's side door. If you've
never removed it before, don't expect much luck. Start now with
penetrating oil on the fittings. Hit it every day for a week. Then get
the best wrenches you can afford and hope for the best.

There's a real chance you'll twist the fuel line rather than rotate the
fitting relative to the line.

I keep my fittings covered with bearing grease.

How are you certain about the damper? Can you turn the outer pulley by
moving the belt? If you can feel & see the damper turning to the limits
(and clicking when they hit), yeah, it's a shot damper.

Not tough to remove through the wheel well, but you'll need a good
quality impact driver and plenty of compressed air.

Robert, Yes I can move the outer pully back and forth and clinking when
they hit with a good 5 to 6 inches of play in between.
Can I drive the car with a shot damper without hurting anything else? I
only have this one car to go back and forth to work, and I can't get it
fixed for other 3 weeks for I only get paid once a month.
Thank you for telling me were the filter was located...

I can't give you an informed answer on that one. Anyone else care to
chime in?

Yes, the fitting's are rusted over and not budging, I'll try to loosin them
again this weekend after I spray the fittings with oil everyday.
Thanks for the info HarryFace on the balancer and that sad story, I'll
check junk yards around here for prices and get it fixed right away. Don't
need that happining to me.

Thanks again for all who helped.

And HarryFace a big thanks for the second time helping me, and a time
before with the starter and celenoid, which is now fixed...
