Here are a few pics of the 93 Opel Vectra.

Now, IMO if you can make a Monaro/GTO out of this, you are in
desperate need of eye attention, or you have a VERY vivid imagination.

If you need to look at any more pics, follow this link

http://www.bilgalleri.dk/html/gal_visbil.asp?ID=412

I would be very interested to hear comments from the general group.

Yeah, you're right, the 99 Vectra is a closer match, only I have never seen
a 2-door Vectra newer than like '95. Still in doubt though, it also looks
like an '02 Opel Astra with a little longer trunk. Whatever model it looks
like, the GTO is an Opel!

Show me the evidence to back up this preposterous claim.

You won't.

Because there isn't any.

I love stupid questions*, especially when they're easy. Here's your info:
http://www.modernracer.com/history/p...tohistory.html

That might be too much reading for you, therefore a few lines from this
page:
"For a bit of trivia, the Australian Holden Monaro, on which the Pontiac GTO
is based, is actually built on Holden's Commodore sedan chassis, which in
turn is a stretched version of the German Opel Omega chassis. The
rear-wheel-drive Opel Omega chassis dates back to the early 90s. And if you
remember, the Cadillac Catera was a rebadged Omega with Cadiilac (sic!)
styling cues. If you look hard enough, you will see Catera design cues on
the GTO. This is information Pontiac would like to keep quiet about."

Still not convinced?? Just check:
http://www.forbes.com/2002/07/01/0701vow.html
That's Forbes, the magazine, quite respectable I believe! And this is what
they say about the GTO:
"Remember the Cadillac Catera? It's coming back.", and
"But in the tangled world of modern carmaking, the next GTO will be based on
an evolution of the same Opel Omega chassis as the ill-fated Catera."

So, the GTO is an Opel from the early 90's. If you're not convinced, just
buy a GTO and be happy with it, I'll just smile when you drive by in your
Opel.

* Although you technically did not ask a question, I still felt that you
were looking for some additional information.

So the Monaro/GTO is based on a great design that dates back to a 1993 Opel.
Whats your point?

And the Ford T-bird was a great design too, but kind of outdated. '93 is
newer than the newest T-bird, but hey, how many '93s are still driving.
Besides it's an Opel!! Opel was the company that didn't want freeways
because their cars would not be able to handle the speeds. Pretty weird to
buy an Opel Sportscar a few (=67) years later.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. The DEW98 platform
that the LS, T-Bird and S-Type use started being developed in 1993
(http://www.cosworth-technology.co.uk...1_history4.htm) and
actually put into production in 99. But hey, if you wanna go and call a Jag
S-Type, Lincoln LS or Ford T-Bird outdated, you go for it.

Are you serious???? My dad had a Opel GT in Germany from 1970-1974 and that
thing would blast down the autobahn at 125MPH all day long with its little
1.3L 4 cyl engine.

We also had a Opel Kadet rental car in 1990 and that had NO problem doing
125MPH all day long too. The same can NOT be said for the American version
the Pontiac Lemans, which is plagued by poor quality and badly running
engines.
