The Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway are on the southwest corner
of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, but to the northeast of the
park you can find similar curvy roads that are a bit less crowded.
The ride from Asheville to Gatlinburg offers a similar experience as highway
40 gets more and more challenging. Its a fun ride but you do have to watch
out for bikes in the way and cliffs with no rails to stop you from falling
off. Also there are parts of the road so worn out the road suddenly becomes
a single lane and each direction takes turns crossing.
