1995 900S advice

I've done some reading here so I've answered many of my questions but I
would still like some input. I currently own a 95 Toyota Tacoma - and I'm
getting tired of driving a truck. A neighbor has a 1995 900S Automatic with
89K on it, he bought the car with 30K and has taken good care of it, (one of
these guys who drives at or below the speed limit and gets the maintenance
done when it needs to be done)(it a northern new england car). He's asking
$5,000 but might let it go for $4,800 ish. I could sell my car for $5,5 ish
so I would pocket almost a grand. Here is my hesitation - Saab - fun to
drive (I've never owned one but I've driven a few) but the idea of getting a
car with 89K and a 1995 is a bit troubling. The other route to go is that
not so fun to drive but more reliable Honda Civic, I rather get a car with a
"personality" i.e. the Saab but I don't want to bungle myself with
maintenance costs.

How much is your health worth? If you happen to get in an accident while
you drive one of these two cars, which one do you think you would fare best
in?

Well, I have a 1995 900S Automatic with 166,000 miles on the original
engine and transmission, and it still runs fine for the most part.

I'm 90% sure it's the 2.3, I know it's an automatic. From what I know of him
he's a good guy who takes care of his stuff. I think he's had most of the
work done at the Saab dealership in Portland, Maine. I know he bought
another Saab to replace this one so he must have been pleased with it.

Let me know, I'll come back with a series of questions you can
ask him about repairs/maint and some comments. Has he had a
Saab dealer do the work ?

So what does that mean? Did you invest every penny in the safest car you
could get? Did you buy the safest earth-quake proof house you could get?

differentiating factor between two options, and asking if the person
has considered the importance of that factor to them.

Sorry for the rant, but 'How much is your health worth?' is a really
overused and disgusting marketing slogan.

OK, then you yourself choose to not consider that factor. Fine...I
don't care how many presets are on the radio, but others probably do.
To each their own.

To me, the fact that the Saab is a very safe car is just a bonus, not
a go or no-go factor, but a "nice to have".

I do care actually, but it's not the be all end all that the slogan
makes it out to be.

western civilisations is going too far.

Saving lives has become the most important thing and seems to withstand
any counterarguments. You can see this mentality in many fields like
ant-smoking & drugs policies. Drugs are dangerous so they should be
outlawed, no matter that the outlawing itself destroys more lives and
liberties than the drugs ever did. Personal responsibility is atrofying
as more and more things that should be free choice are made compulsory
in the name of safety.

People seem to be building a safe cushioned society where the most
important question is that of safety. IMO this is the wrong direction.
I'm sure wearing a helmet in a car would save lives, so let's wait for
that to become law.

As things get safer and safer for some reason people seem to be feeling
more and more unsafe.

How much is your health worth? Well, all the money in the world I guess.
How can one really answer such a question? How appropriate a question is
it to ask in choosing between two cars? And how surprising is it that
someone looks beyond that statement and sees what it really represents
and finds it resentful?
