Default C900 headliner - that old favourite! - 10-31-2004 , 12:55 PM

Hi all

The headliner on my 92 C900 T16S has started to sag at the back, as they
do.

It's a bit annoying, as it had only just been replaced when I bought the
car a little less than a year ago.

The cloth doesn't need replacing, just sticking back. My mechanic has
suggested that, as it's only a fairly limited area at the minute, I
could try using a syringe to inject glue above the fabric without taking
the liner out.

What do you think of that idea? Anybody tried it? What sort of glue
should I use (and where do you get syringes?!?)

If the best bet is to remove the liner, are there any tricks to that, or
pitfalls to watch out for?

TIA!

Brad

Saabnet has a writeup on how to do this. The problem is that the foam
backing on the fabric deteriorates and disintegrates. It is one with the
fabric. If you are in to keeping this car for a few years, you will need
to do it at some point. If you do it soon, you will have that much more
enjoyment of not having a droopy headliner. I have found a local source
that will recover them for about US 100.00 as long as I drop it off and
give them a week. I am sure an auto upholstery shop near you can
probably help as well.

Should have lasted longer than that. New headliner or just retrimmed? New
ones in two of mine have bettered 3 years. Any chance of chasing a
warranty claim? (unless you live in an equatorial swamp ....) Humidity
getting into the roof (via the pillars?) seems to finish them off double
quick.

I've tried contact cement, spray glue and at least one other, all with v
limited success. Trim clips (push in mushrooms), dressamker's pins and the
ubiquitous staple gun all work to some extent but look naff. Staples are
probably best of the 3 and the least conspicuous.

<<If the best bet is to remove the liner, are there any tricks to that, or

Removing the headliner is easy in a coupe - just remove the light and grab
handles and CAREFULLY slide it through the rear hatch. Reverse to refit.
Sedan is more of a pain!

That will work as a stopgap measure, but the long term solution is to do
it right.

I had this problem and just used staples. It wasn't pretty, but it was
much better than letting it sag.

Worked for me too. Quick, can look almost good. but not quite right if
you notice it.
