Default Compass Mirror - 08-06-2003 , 10:06 AM

Hello:

I recently drove a 9-5 loaner car while my 2000 9-5 was in for its 30K
service. The loaner car had a compass mirror. Could this be added to my
car by replacing the current rearview mirror with a new one that has the
compass?

Thanks,

Barry

That sounds interesting.
Does Saab also make an automatic night mirror? I had that on the Lincoln and
really liked it. It works like those eyeglasses that darken when you go out in
the sun and clear when you come inside.
When high beams or high truck lights hit the sensor on the mirror, the mirror
shuts down and you don't get blinded by them. When the light goes away, the
mirror clears and you have a full view of what's behind you.

I asked this question to my dealer. It can be done, but it's very, very
pricey (like close to $1000).

Bernard:

Thanks for the response. That is too pricey for me. I do not kow why it
would be so expensive. If all of the compass electronics are contained in
the mirror, the labor cost would be low. If they need to add additional
components elsewhere, that could drive up the cost. The cost of an auto
dimming mirror in the Saab catalog is only $130. I already have this since
I have the SE model.
