I was playing with a new jack and accidentally jacked the engine out of the back of a brand new (sepia tone) rear engine Saab Your dad must have sold another brand of cars as well, because if the engine was in the back, it wasn't a Saab. |

MeatballTurbo (carl.robson (AT) bouncing-czechs (DOT) com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying : Can only think of Trabant who had 2 stroke air cooled rear engine, and as far as I'm aware, they never sold in the UK. And were front engined anyway.... Ah, OK. Not so up on them, always fancied one, because they sound fun |

Rear engined in the UK suggests Skoda, Hillman Imp (or rootes group derivative (maybe a Pug link there)), VW Beetle, or if very old, a Renault Dauphine. If you confused another brand for a Saab with a rear engine, I'm going to suggest a Skoda 105/120/130 (badged as Estelle in the UK) looks quite similar in shape to a 99 Saloon. |

A 99 has a few more nice curves on it, especially with that semi sweeping fastback look, concave rear window, clamshell bonnet, curved windscreen. Actually one car that is often mistaken for a 70's saab of some sort, is the VW type 4..maybe this is what brian remembers... http://www.hallvw.clara.net/type4.htm Maybe right on the type four, although I thought that the Type 4 was a |

The Variant looks like a type 4, but the cutaway fastback looks very type 3.
