Here is a pic ( not a great one ) of a plug from my 2.3 (no turbo) 60K miles on mtr, 10Kmiles on plus. If you look closely, you will see that one side of the plug is tan while the other side is sooty black. Three of my plugs were like that. The fourth was all tan , as I would expect to see. I took them to a mechanic friend of mine and he has never seen plugs like that before. Anyone know what caused it? There was no performance difference after I replaced the plugs, so maybe there is nothing to worry about. Any comments welcome? [Image] |

[Image] I wonder if you may have a weepy injector - and that gap looks a just little irregular from here as well. Have a peak around here if you are using a fuel additive - it almost looks like a 'splash deposit': http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/spkplghnbook.htm#We -- J Dexter - webmaster - http://www.dexterdyne.org/ all tunes - no cookies no subscription no weather no ads no news no phone in - RealAudio 8+ Required - all the Time Radio Free Dexterdyne Top Tune o'be-do-da-day Louis Prima Keely Smith - Hey Boy Hey Girl http://www.dexterdyne.org/888/146.RAM |

The plug gap was fine...just looks strange because of the low electrode. They were Bosh Platinum. |

They do look like the last one in that group of pics with the additive splash. Since I dont use additives, it must be something in the Esso gas I use. I will put another 1k on the old girl and check the new plugs. If I still have the deposits, I will switch brands of fuel for a few thou and see what happens. nd yes the new plugs are the factory recommended type in my manual. |

Your manual recommends Bosch Platinums? Every manual I've seen for the last two decades or so of production has listed NGK. What year/model/ engine/market? |

Whoa! You'r gettin off on a tangent . Look back a bit, I never said that any Saab manual recommends platinum plugs. What was written was: the new plugs I installed were the type recommended by the saab manual.....and yes in deed... they wus NKG BCPR6ES. Obviously the platinum plug in the photo was from the old batch I removed. Now I will run the NKGs for a few thousand and see if I still get the same deposit pattern. |
