Default 97 SL2 Keyless remote weak - 07-06-2003 , 12:43 PM

This has never worked really well on this car.
Cleaned remotes, new batteries installed, still you have to be almost on top of
the car before locks open.
I checked archives.
Is this one of those cars that needs the receiver turned 180 deg.?
Is there anything in the receiver that needs cleaned?
Thanks.

Where are you using the remote? In my own driveway with my '97 SL2 I can
operate the remote from nearly 100 ft away. In a parking lot, surrounded by
giant SUVs and trucks, the remote won't work until I'm almost next to the
car.

If there is electrical interference in the area that could also cause
problems.

It also might be time to get a new transmitter. I have 97 sl2 also and
it became weaker and weaker as they years went by. I tried cleaning,
new batteries, etc. also and it still wouldn't work until I was very
close to the car.

Bought a new remote last year and the "problem" fixed it self right
away.

When you say "never worked really well", are you saying that it hasn't
been working since '97?? If so, let the dealer look at it. A new
transmitter is like $40 or so.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm probably at the point where I need a new remote.
The car was a couple years old when we got it. Remotes worked but didn't
compare well to some other cars.
(My 2003 Chevy truck has a remote that works from a couple hundred feet away.)
I've done the cleaning and new battery thing a few times now and don't think
that's the whole answer.
