Default Knock in motor?? - 09-24-2004 , 11:08 PM

HEy there, Picking your brains again.

I thought i had a valve problem, i took the cover off and everything inside
is lovely. Under furthur inspection, it appears as though the lower end is
the problem.

I've got a 164, 000 kms (100, 00Miles) on it.. SW2
Oil Changes done regularly using Amsoil Synthetic Since i bought the car at
83, 000 kms.

Noise just started one day then stop a few miles down the road and the a
couple of weeks later it came back and seems to have stayed. Not driving it
now, been riding my motorcycle since it happened. It is going to snow
someday so i'll have to fix it.

Any ideas????

Graham

Ground each spark plug one at a time or disconnect each fuel injector
one at a time to see what piston is making the noise. Not much else I
can think of to say.

In article <6rudnZBky9OQncvcRVn-og (AT) rogers (DOT) com>, graham (AT) fralickboats (DOT) com

My Machanic says that it could be cheaper to look at putting a used motor in
rather than fixing mine. Says it is an hourly rate to get inside and see
what is wrong.

Does this sound normal?
He says it could eb a bearing on the crank going or something going on with
the piston.

Any idea what a motor twin cam 99 or newer 1.9 with say 60, 000 kms would
run me...

Automatic trany? check nuts holding torque converter to flex plate.
Sometimes these work loose.
Otherwise, pull the oil pan and pull the bearing caps on the crank/rod
bearings and look for a trashed bearing or crankshaft. Often a really bad
bearing will have enough play to feel when tapped with a soft face mallet.
Could also be a worn piston causing a slap or a worn wrist pin.
How was the oil pressure?
Then it comes down to how good a mechanic you are or how lucky you are.
Sometimes you can do better getting a junkyard engine for a few hundred
bucks.
Good luck!
