Obviously you have never been inside of one, if that is what you believe.

I do.

If they had as much room on the inside as they take up on the outside,
they'd be more popular!

Correct. I'd not want to be seen in one of the ugly beasts. I think it is
worse than being seen in a Honda Element and that is BAD.

Has anyone every taken one off road? The only ones I see are taken to the
mall or to the grocery store for a loaf of bread.

Are you off road where you might see them?
If you only go to the mall or grocery store, then that's where you'll
see them.
I don't know where 'ol Ed goes to see/get Hummers, but he claims to know the
penis size of every Hummer driver out there. I wonder if his wife knows what
he's up to when she's not around.

Not so astounding if you paid any attention to the total mismanagement

Yup, they turned Saabs from virtually unbreakable to 'ordinary'.

Graham

Ordinary cars now have build in obsolescence. Not necessarily due to engine,
but the many electronically controlled safety gadgets; airbags, abs, active
suspension. Any failure lights in those circuits and it's a MOT failure.
You're supposed to scrap your car after 10 years. A 10 year old car is deemed
to be excessively polluting. But is this really true?

My 1993 Saab 9000 LPT does 40 mpg on motorways, much the same as many modern
cars of the same size. This car was already designed on the back of 1970's
fuel crises, hence the use of turbo rather than a 6-cyl.

To be fair, a modern Vauxhall/Opel overlaps considerable with Saab, so there
is hardly any point of the make. Except the wish to be different...

Say goodbye to Saturn. And Saab and Hummer, for that
matter. Pontiac, too, for all intents and purposes.

Curious that they should wish to rid themselves of 2 of their most
promising (and best styled IMHO ) lines ( Hummer excluded ).

When will the Americans ever learn ?
You don't appear to understand the American market...

2 Saturn models are already effectively Opels ( except they insist on
putting bigger engines in them plus slush boxes ) and fuel efficient
along with the Saabs.

Let's hope Investor AB will take a bigger interest, or even Scania step
in ?

Scania's hardly likely to step in, since they're largely owned by VW -
and in the financial shit themselves.

First it is important to differentiate between the H1 (the original
Hummer) and GM's abortions that came after (H2 and H3). Many (not all,
but most) H1 owners go off-road. I do, and many of my friends with
them do as well.

H2 and H3 owners pride themselves in their parking lot and soccer
field parking lot adventures!

As for 'ugly', I can assure you that many girls (attractive ones, at
that) seem to not notice when they ask for a ride. Try that in your
Pontiac!

GM totally fucked up the Hummer name, never ever understood what
Hummer was, and only thought to market to the masses. In short it was
doomed to failure, because Hummer owners, to that point, were very
unique people, buying a very unique vehicle. Only about 10,000 H1s
were ever produced (world-wide sales) of which most (sadly not all)
are still running around.

They (the H1, the ONLY real Hummer) are tough, incredible trail and
off-road vehicles right off the dealer's floor.

GM has consistantly missed the boat, so to speak, with other brands.
THey never understood owners (Saab, and Hummer come to mind), just as
Ford didn't understand Jaguar and Rover owners. The end result was
pre-ordained.

Yes, I really do have a Hummer H1. Actually I have two, I like them so
much. And no, I rarely get the finger.

They are not intended to all maximum load or passengers. They are
intended for a very different purpose. Get a van if that (more room)
is your objective. Your comment points out how misunderstood the H1 is
by some people, and typifies how GM misread the brand and market.

Exactly. Too many think the GM Hummer is the real deal, thus the "Sissy
Hummer" name I give it. The H-1 is a great off road machine. The H-2 and
H-3 are for people with a lot of money and want to buy macho.
