My questions: Going to need to rebuild my Subaru engine soon.10 Y 155k w/ 1 head gasket replacement @ about 100 k. Downtime is a problem, so considering buying used engine and rebuilding, then swapping. 1) where is a good place to get a used engine, preferably somewhere in the southwest US. 2) Tranny is slipping (automatic), and has trouble shifting, especially from #2 to #3. On a scale of 0 - 10, 0 being complete and total retard, 10 being Stephen Hawking or other braniac intelligence, how hard is it to rebuild the tranny on this vehicle. Is it worth is, or should i spend the money to just replace it.... I would consider my self in the area of 6 out of 10 on the aforementioned scale. (at least where car repairs are concerned) 3) How hard is it to replace the starter motor with the engine in the vehicle. Thanks for your input. Kevin |

I don't know about the first two, but replacing the starter is a piece of cake. 1/2 hour maximum. To make it easy to reach all the nuts/bolts with your wrenches, remove the air plenum that connects to the throttle body, and its aluminum support. Are you sure the tranny is bad or could it just be low fluid? |
