Default subaru baja question. - 07-06-2003 , 05:04 PM

From reading the posts here it seems as if nobody owns a Baja. Does anyone
own this car? I really like the OB and Forester but the utility of a Baja
seems to be excellent. Any thoughts?

According to Subaru media website they sold 900+ units in the US in June
alone. But it is the worst selling model second only to Impreza.

Gee, I own one. I think it was about the 3rd purchased in San Antonio but I
see others on the road now and then. It has proven to be very useful,
perhaps more so with the soft cover over the cargo area. It seems just the
right size since I can carry 4 if necessary and still have room in the back
for tall plants (or furniture) and heavy cargo like water softener salt,
50lb bags of deer corn and the like. I've had Legacy station wagons in the
past but the Baja seems more useful especially when it comes to taller
loads.

Proving once again that no niche is too small for Subaru to explore. I
bet they've still sold more Bajas than SVXs in the first year they were
made.

You did not have to rub it in

Hey, it's a good thing. I enjoy owning a unique vehicle, and if it
wasn't for the fact that the standard Legacy wagon/Outback meets my needs so
well, I'd be looking at a Baja in a few years when the early models drop
enough in price - just to be different. With that in mind, I originally
wanted an SVX because it was as cool-yet-weird-looking as an Italian exotic,
but with much cheaper parts for repair. Of course, with that said a lot of
SVX parts are more expensive than Legacy parts, and since it took me 6
months just to find a Legacy that I liked, I didn't want to spend another 6
months trying to find an SVX when my Mercury was falling apart on me.

Different is good. A friend of mine drove a Subaru XT6 all through High
School, and he was picking up girls left and right. For graduation, he got
a brand new Volkswagen Jetta and none of the ladies were interested in
that - everyone had one, it was just boring and so mainstream. You can't
get any weirder than a car that resembles a wedge of cheese, has an
instrument cluster that looks straight out of a video game, and has a
fighter-jet control stick for a gear shifter.

So what you're trying to tell me that if I get a Baja all the problems
with the pickup will be gone. Is that right?

I have to agree I have owned one since May and think it's an absolute blast.
Silver on Silver. Packed on about 2000 miles the first month.

Saw one the other day, yellow. Stopped and talked to the guy and loves his
too

i was at my local subaru dealership. I asked the salesman when he
expects the turbo Baja to come in. he said "i dont think we are gonna
get it in. We havent sold a single baja yet. We are now using them
as service vechiles"

so, i dont think it is a popular vechile

personally, i think it is a cool car/truck. id buy one over the
impreza, if the price tag was the same as a ts wagon.
