Someone who have changed the heater-register/radiator in Impreza?
Do I have to take the hole car apart :-)

I just changed the heater core on my 97 Impreza. I kept looking for
ways to avoid taking out almost everything against the firewall, but
in the end, almost everything was out just like the book said. The
steering wheel support bar runs the entire length of the dashboard and
definitely has to come out. The air conditioner only had to be
loosened so it would pull away a few inches. Ordered locally for
$225. I noticed a few differences but figured the tubes would bend a
little. No way. If it's not the same, don't take it. I had to take
the tubes off the old one and put them on the new one, a little risky
since I didn't know where the hole might have been.

If you look up the labor time for this operation, it is referred to as
"Remove car from heater core" :-)
