The factory air filter has only a very light misting of oil on the filter.
My Forester filter when removed does not have any oblivious oil on it or in
the housing. Get a new replacement and try again. If oil is excessive then
you may have a plugged crankcase vent problem. Blowing out the filter only
gets rid of the large stuff and does not clean the micron size holes which
protect the engine. Ed

it was wet with oil. Is this normal? Is the stock filter oiled like K&N?

The car has 20K miles.

Edward,
Thanks. I'm gonna try a dry one and see if it gets wet over the next couple of
hundred miles.
