Default Early Morning Shakes - 11-03-2009 , 11:02 PM

I've got a 97 4 Runner (180k miles) that has a slight shake in the
morning for a few seconds after starting. The shake got worse over a
few months before I took it for a tune-up at the dealer. They found
one plug was very worn and replaced the coil.

Two days later the shake is starting to come back. I'm planning to
call them tomorrow to have them take another look. I'm not a mechanic
but hope someone here can give me an idea of what else to look for.

Ah, the shakes..... I remember them fondly. My 1992 Toyota pickup
would shake me back and forth, left and right, while it warmed up
and it did it for many years. The problem did not appear to be a
worn engine mount, but an internal one: a slapping piston perhaps,
or late firing of the spark plugs. If the power strokes are
delayed, some rocking side to side can occur at idle but it will
be slight.
