Default 1989 cressida, gearbox problems this time - 09-27-2009 , 04:50 AM

I will try to describe symptoms,1989 cressida auto, I have had it for a
year or so, it has never liked getting out of first or second till it
has been a few kilometre's then works normally for the rest of the day
but it is now misbehaving. It is erratic in when it changes, sometimes
at driving speed as it changes to a higher gear it revs up as if there
is no connection to the gearbox and suddenly grabs, sometimes it behaves
normally except for softer changes.
Sometimes it seem normal
If , as soon as it revs with no seeming connection I drop revs it then
changes.
This behavior has started with no gradual warning like slipping.
Could it be something to do with solenoids or oil pressure or a
blockage? Oil level is normal.(I am hoping it is not clutch plates)

What is the color and smell of the ATF? Is the OD Off light flashing?

Update, I may have fixed it I changed the filter (old one looked pretty
clogged)in the sump and it seems to be working.
I will know more after a longer test.
I put a new filter in but it looks as if the old filter would be easy to
reverse flush, I cut it open , it is just a big sheet of fine mesh
Ps I copied that manual and printed the whole thing one page at a time.
I know , I am mad. Took full cartrige of ink made a book 3/4 of an inch
thick (printed single sided)

OK, if changing the filter and fluid improved things, you'll want to change
the fluid again in about 3,000 miles - just a drain and refill - don't power
flush the transmission unless you feel very very lucky.

If it's the manual I sent you, it's for a Supra!!!

But, a lot of the systems are similar between the two cars.
