'Twas bad enough when he said the war in Iraq was lost.

Man the Dims really do want to replay Vietnam, don't they?

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. And the Dims
never seem to learn.

Nice try. It's Bush and the Repubs that have not learned from Vietnam.
It's over, all that can be gained now is more loss of American lives.

Loose lips harry. He's taken back those words a little bit.

All about politics Charles. It will go on until the democrats regain
the White House. If and when that happens then the Iraq debate will
take on yet another set of legs. They will have some explaining to do
when the shit happens in the aftermath.

It will happen, just a matter of when. You want a permanent force in
Iraq?

Nope. He's exactly right. We GAVE Al-Qaeda the upper hand when we invaded.
There was no earthly reason for it and we did it, anyway. We GAVE Al-Qaeda
a training ground for terrorists and a cause to bring in new ones.

Saddam was no threat to the US but we invaded, anyway. All the while, the
real criminal has gone scot-free.

Bush is the idiot.

Not really, but it might be helpful as it is in Bosnia and other places.
I've always been in favor of aid to other countries, mainly money. We
have to look at it as a security tax. With that aid we are to keep
bases in selected areas.

Whimsy at times, I wish we were back in the good old days (??) of the
cold war. USSR had their sheep to keep and we had ours. The world
seemed ironically, to be more peaceful.
And on the brink of a nuclear war. As a child, I found the Cold War to be
out & out scary. During those years, I truly thought that it was very
likely that my sister & I would not live to be adults.

I was never worried.

But I avoid being an adult whenever I can. ;-)

Not even during the Cuban Missile Crisis? I was worried in a general sense
re: the Cold War up till then, but was basically petrified at the height of
that deal. I remember my (7th gr., IIRC) English teacher giving an
assignment that was due in 2 days' time, & thinking... what's the point? -
we might not be here to hand it in anyway; it seemed so insignificant &
ridiculous in the face of that super-tense situation.

Bush is the idiot.

He acted on the best information he had at the time, given what happened
on 9/11.
There was nothing to link Al-Qaeda to Iraq and no reason to invade Iraq and
the Administration knew it. We've created a disaster for no reason at all.

It turns my stomach to see pious Duibya lamenting the people killed at VT,
when the same day a bomb killed 140 Iraqis and he doesn't blink an eye. We
know why, of course: Iraqis don't vote here. Or maybe he just thinks of
them as wogs, expendable resources in his quest for some sort of imperialism
that's doomed to be realized only in his head.

You seem to think the world is at peace until GWB came along,
that is not true. Terrorism has been building for many years,
culminating on 9/11 with the killing of about 3000 innocent citizens. I
know you are very partisan and that is why you take the position that
GWB is an idiot. He beat the best the democrats had and I know it must
hurt you profoundly. Tough shit.
Tough shit, for sure. Tough shit, that is, for all of us. Dubya has set
the stage for 50 years of very rough going. This has cost us friends,
intelligence sources, credibility, respect and it has strengthened the
terrorists beyond their wildest dreams.

And only a total idiot would have said "Crusade" when discussing our foray
into the Middle East. Just because Dubya can't be troubled to study history
doesn't mean that nobody else does.

And he only beat Gore in the Electoral College. More people went to the
polls and voted for Gore. True, bolstered by lies, he defeated Kerry, but
it didn't matter because the idiocy was unstoppable. Nobody could fix what
Dubya did.

He acted on the best information he had at the time,
He acted on info which he knew was not the best available, even at that
time. That's (part of) what pisses so many people off - the dishonesty, &
wangling things to fit his own agenda. ("Come hell or high water, I am
going to find a way to invade Iraq!") Then trying - & to a large part
succeeding - in duping the public. Until they - well, most of them - woke
up.

My parents were married just after Kennedy died. So I never experienced the
stupidity of that part of the Cold War first-hand. While I knew MAD was
possible, I never really worried over it.
