I think the black community needs to address its own house before they go
banging on the neighbor's door.

You're assigning a stereotype to the black community; which is the same
thing that Imus did.

By the way, once you scrape off the racist topping, Imus called these
girls, whom he does not know at all, "whores." That ought to be enough to
get him sacked in an ostensibly civilized country. I've forbidden certain
radio stations in our house for similar reasons. My wife agrees.

One more time ...

Imus is gone, and good riddance to him. But, the point isn't Don Imus. The
point is the black community is riddled with men that same the exact same
thing, and THEY are encouraged to do so while Dom Imus is chastised. I agree
that Don put his ass squarely into the wringer, I only wonder why it's a bad
thing when he does it but not when everybody else does it.

Fine, I'm wrong there. But if so, how come the spokesholes (Al and Jesse)
of the black community have selective outrage? How come black rappers can
openly call black women bitches and hos, and call each other nigger, but
Imus says the same thing, apparently in a feeble attempt to make a bad
joke more than to spread hate, and all hell breaks loose?
They don't have selective outrage. I have heard them speak against that type
of "music" too. Believe it or not, Al and Jesse can't dictate what rappers
produce or what their audience buys. Imus was on a mainstream radio station
and being simulcast on MSNBC. Do those rappers have a mainstream radio
program simulcast on MSNBC? My point is that type of "music" has to be
sought out by those who want to hear it.

only that, but the black community as a whole seem to be upset -- rightly,
I might add -- about Imus, but are not upset about the others that do and
say exactly the same thing. And, those others say the same thing as Imus
said, but they say it with hate in their voice, and indifference towards
those they harm through their words.
You've heard Al and Jesse actually say that they approve of current rap
lyrics?? Funny, I just saw Olberman interviewing Jesse last night and he
said the opposite.

I don't mean to paint a broad brush across the black community, and I'm

If the outrage was REALLY the words that came out, then Imus would not be
the problem in the minds of Al and Jesse. Unfortunately, the community is
defined by the spokesholes when there are so few other definitions to use.

Who encourages it? Young guys with lowered rides and over-amped bass don't
speak for every African-American person in the US. You just can't help
yourself with that broad brush of yours.

I'm sorry, but I've not heard Al and Jesse doing that. They resisted efforts
to condemn rappers the same way they condemned Imus. And, this is my only
point relative to this discussion.

If Al and Jesse can dictate what Imus does on his show, then they should
also be able to dictate the crap that spews forth from the rappers that are
by and large black entertainers. Yes, I know there are white rappers, but
I'd suggest that white rappers can not call black men niggers, like black
men call other black men.

No, I haven't heard them approve, but I did not hear of them disapproving of
Imus before last week. I WANT them to disapprove of Imus, I think they took
way too long to express outrage. But, I want them to express the same
outrage toward the rappers that say the same thing. Lacking specific
disapproval of rappers from Al and Jesse, I have no choice but to believe
they approve. I want Al and Jesse to become vocal towards the speech, not
towards the speaker. They are vocal towards the speaker, and that's my beef.
It's the speech that's offensive here.

Well they got their wish and should be happy now. Imus was fired from CBS
radio, so he's history. (for now)

I agree. He is well reasoned, and if he takes a swipe at social ills in
general, you can be sure his swipe is not conditional on what part of
society is sick.

Hardly.
Point taken, but it sure ain't BIG NEWS when a prominent black person

have to apologize for it, either.
