What are these little cars like? Do they have any inherent problems peculiar
to them only? I'm looking at a manual turbo model. Any info is appreciated.

Haven't heard of anything particularly odd that goes wrong with the Starlets
of late. Starlets tend to have a good reputation for reliability and
reasonably good performance - and very enhanceable. A friend of mine is
building up an old KP62 Starlet (1981) with a 4AGE, and another is doin' a
KP62 with a Mazda RE12A Turbo rotor with a 100hp shot of NOS... scary.

However the modern stuff is FAR easier - sports ECM, boost control and a
bigger turbo would push you far closer to forced induction nirvana.

Being as you're in NZ I'd say with fair certainty that it's a nice Japanese
import, so just use standard procedure of examining the car thoroughly for
rust formation. Normal places are in the sills, doors, wheelarches, boot.

How many kilometres has the wee Starlet got on it?
