'Twas bad enough when he said the war in Iraq was lost. Man the Dims really do want to replay Vietnam, don't they? Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. And the Dims never seem to learn. -- Charles of Schaumburg |

Not really, but it might be helpful as it is in Bosnia and other places. I've always been in favor of aid to other countries, mainly money. We have to look at it as a security tax. With that aid we are to keep bases in selected areas. Whimsy at times, I wish we were back in the good old days (??) of the cold war. USSR had their sheep to keep and we had ours. The world seemed ironically, to be more peaceful. |

And on the brink of a nuclear war. As a child, I found the Cold War to be out & out scary. During those years, I truly thought that it was very likely that my sister & I would not live to be adults. |

Nope. He's exactly right. We GAVE Al-Qaeda the upper hand when we invaded. There was no earthly reason for it and we did it, anyway. We GAVE Al-Qaeda a training ground for terrorists and a cause to bring in new ones. Saddam was no threat to the US but we invaded, anyway. All the while, the real criminal has gone scot-free. Bush is the idiot. He acted on the best information he had at the time, given what happened on 9/11. |

You seem to think the world is at peace until GWB came along, that is not true. Terrorism has been building for many years, culminating on 9/11 with the killing of about 3000 innocent citizens. I know you are very partisan and that is why you take the position that GWB is an idiot. He beat the best the democrats had and I know it must hurt you profoundly. Tough shit. |

Not even during the Cuban Missile Crisis? I was worried in a general sense re: the Cold War up till then, but was basically petrified at the height of that deal. I remember my (7th gr., IIRC) English teacher giving an assignment that was due in 2 days' time, & thinking... what's the point? - we might not be here to hand it in anyway; it seemed so insignificant & ridiculous in the face of that super-tense situation. |
