It does not have to be colored. Remember to change the solution every five days or so and clean the feeders. They are amazing creatures and fun to observe and have around the house. what attracts the hummingbirds to his garden/yard. I put in some more
beebalm plants last year, but still no hummingbirds. Other than once every
several years.
However, this past winter I had tufted titmice at the feeder for the first
time ever, plus a red-breasted nuthatch in addition ot the usual
white-breasted ones. And more & more goldfinches have been showing up in
the last couple of years.
And it's dusk, & I hear a male cardinal out there right now, doing his
evening chipping call... :-)
