Here in Ontario (Canada), there was a request by some Muslim groups to legalize "Shariah" (sp?), which is a set of Muslim marriage/relationship laws that supposedly give the male all the power. I don't know which countries these particular Muslim groups came from, but thankfully our otherwise inept premier (after some deliberation!) refused to allow it. But is that really a problem for non-Muslims? Or were they trying to make *everyone* abide by that law? Natalie Well Natalie...on one hand perhaps we 'should' allow emigrants |

But, that's just not their custom I guess. Remember the Muslim woman in Florida (I think) who applied for a driver's licence but wouldn't allow them to photograph her face?...WooHoo...the fur flew there... If we allow this deviation what happens when some people from 'very' different cultural backgrounds try to introduce some customs that we 'cannot live with'? -- -Gord. |

Along those same lines, military guys marry Asian women from oppressed countries, they bring them back here, and once some of them see how American women live, they bag that subservient shit. Much to the guys' chagrin. ;-) Natalie Quite true...I'm still of the opinion that anyone wanting to |

snip But is that really a problem for non-Muslims? Or were they trying to make *everyone* abide by that law? It was a law only for their "own"... This being said, make no mistake, the moslem world has one goal, convert all the "infidels"... Let them build their mosques and take a larger place in our occidental society and in 50 years from now, we might find ourselves living a different world... I hope I'm wrong though... If they want to be treated equally, then they should NOT be looking for special treatment just because of their ethnic background. A lot of minorities who squawk about allegedly being discriminated against have only themselves to blame for demanding such special treatment--case in point, those Muslims demanding that "Shariah" be legalized here. |
